About Us

Our Story

At GSECC, we’re more than a school—we’re a cooperative community of educators, families, and children, growing together with care and joy.

Founded in October 2023 in Greenwood, Seattle, we are an educator-owned childcare cooperative where teachers share in decision-making and bring their expertise into how the center is shaped. This means the people who know children best are helping guide every part of our program.

Our play-based learning is rooted in social-emotional development, so children gain the skills that matter most for life:

  • Empathy — learning to care for and understand others

  • Resilience — building confidence through challenges and exploration

  • Self-expression — through art, storytelling, and imaginative play

  • Collaboration — solving problems and working together as friends

Each September, classrooms move up together as a group, creating stability and belonging. Children grow side by side with their peers and teachers, strengthening bonds and carrying a sense of community year after year.

FAQ

Need to Know

We understand that choosing the right preschool comes with many questions — and we’re here to help!
Do you accept Subsidy?

Yes, we accept Washington State and City of Seattle subsidy. We will need confirmation of any subsidy payments prior to beginning of care.

What is your snow/emergency closure policy?

We will notify families by 6am the day of any snow/weather/emergency closures. We will drive the roads and determine how safe the roads are and connect with staff, as some may live outside of Seattle, where roads tend to be less plowed or driveable. We will give families as much notice as possible and attempt to minimize the closures as much as possible. We thank families for their understanding during circumstances outside of our control.

Are you inclusive?

We believe it is important to provide high quality care to all children. We do accept children with medical needs, developmental delays, and behavioral needs. We will work with families as the child’s development and needs change. We want to include all children’s home cultures as possible and help experience and interact with people of many cultures, backgrounds and abilities.

Do you expel children from care?

We have an expulsion prevention policy to help children who may exhibit more aggressive behaviors. When behaviors are first presented, we will connect and work with families to create a safety plan for the child and classroom. This plan may include sending a child home for the day if their behaviors escalate and become unsafe and we are unable to provide support. If we reach a point that we are unable to provide safe care for all children, we may help a family explore alternative care options. This policy is clearly detailed in our family handbook.
